Dads House.

Our Mission

Dads House aim is to make sure children remain the priority after divorce, separation or bereavement.

We will help all Dads in need but cannot assist anyone that has been charged with any physical/verbal abuse of their children/partner.

Helping Dads and Families.

There are many ways in which we help dads and families. Our Family Law Clinic is open every Wednesday and Friday to advise on the Family Courts. It’s a bookings only service and takes place in person.

We also run a food bank open five days a week from 10 am to 1 pm. Anyone is welcome.

Combating loneliness

Loneliness and social isolation are an epidemic in modern society. It is an extremely dangerous health risk, contributing to physical illness as well as mental distress.

Dads going though family breakdown are especially vulnerable when they leave the family home. Dads House provides yoga classes, football nights and Dads Table to give fathers the community they need.

From February 15th we are offering Dads Table This is an evening when Dads can come and meet in a safe space

House Rules.

Any form of violence, arguments, discrimination or racism will not be tolerated. Any person found to be violating the house rules will be asked to leave, plus refused entry back into Dads House.

Our History.

Dads House was set up in 2008 by William McGranaghan (Billy to his friends) to help single dads with the practicalities of raising their children alone.

There are currently over 2 million non-residential dads in the UK and over 450,000 raising their children alone. Just in London there are 25,000 dads who are the main carers for their children. We have seen a huge change in society and these figures are expected to rise dramatically in the next 5 years. After raising his own son from an early age, William realised that there was very little support for fathers.Although there were a number of organisations available to help parents, there was no support for the practical side, no one to meet up with for a coffee and chat, people that would have an understanding of their struggles.

It was Billy's dream to create a charity that could offer the support needed by single dads so he set up Dads House.

Since Dads House launched in 2008, our reputation has grown within many organisations. Today many local authorities and the UK Government often contact Dads House to help with various topics.

Office Of National Statistics May 2023.

There were 2.9 million lone-parent families in 2022, accounting for 15% of all families.

Our Founder

William McGranaghan

The founder and promoter of Dads House is William (Billy) McGranaghan. William is himself a single father. He and his son, Sam, were left by Sam’s mother, who went abroad when Sam was one year old. William immediately had to learn to care for Sam. He took temporary and part time work in order to be able to spend time with Sam and to take him to school. It was not easy. Sam was discovered at the age of eleven as having learning difficulties. Despite that, with William’s love and support, Sam did well at school and now, aged 18, has gone to college to study Sports Development. William wishes to make life a bit easier for other fathers who find themselves in his predicament. He wants them to get the help he did not get.
